Black Gackle perched on gator-head log,

Long –leg ‘Gret, gettin’ll d’pollywog

 

Cats shuckin’mudbugs, suckin’up roe,

Pilin’‘dem bones where d’ hounds don’t stro’,

Paw-paw’s pirogue,

Bayou

 

Mist weaves a’twistin’ down d’brack water slo’

Banshee win’ whistlin’, sieves d’cypress grove,

 

Bayou

 

Flat-tire moon drifts, ol’ man ‘n d’sky,

Bogie ’n d’bayuk, ain’t no reason why –

 

Day can’t fin’ You!
